Disney World, Universal to reopen Tuesday after Irma sweeps through Florida

Walt Disney World and the Universal Orlando resorts have just confirmed that they will reopen on Tuesday, after Hurricane Irma caused all theme parks in central Florida to close for at least two days.

Disney resort hotels remained open during Irma, but the parks were closed Sunday and Monday. "We are hard at work inside our parks and we can confirm an on-time opening for Tuesday, Sept 12 at 9am for Universal Studios, Universal's Islands of Adventure and Universal's Volcano Bay". "We hope to resume normal operations on Tuesday, September 12", advised Disney's site Monday morning.

Special events, such as Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, will also take place.

From the looks of it, there was no major damage done to the theme parks or the resorts.

HOWEVER, this track will still bring the risk of heavy rain, gusty wind, and isolated tornadoes to our area by Monday afternoon and evening.

Sustained winds of at least 40 miles per hour or wind gusts of 58 miles per hour or stronger could occur, NWS GSP said.

Universal said its facility suffered relatively minor damage to fences, trees and building facades.

Charlotte is expected to get rain associated with Hurricane Irma midday, with waves of rain blowing in later.

Downgraded to a tropical storm early on Monday, Irma had ranked as one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes recorded. "Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.Winds this strong can make driving difficult.especially for high profile vehicles".

High winds snapped power lines and left about 7.3 million homes and businesses without power in Florida and elsewhere in the U.S. Southeast, state officials and utilities said.
