Ground-and-pound: Titans run all over Jaguars in 37-16 rout

The Jaguars' formula of running the ball, minimizing the reliance on Bortles and playing good defense and special teams worked in the season opener against Houston. But the impromptu gathering was a sign the Titans weren't going for it. The Titans recovered the ball and took over on offense. Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly from this game.

Unfortunately for Jacksonville, the turnovers didn't stop there.

The Titans stuck with their run game, pounding the Jaguars over and over in the second half on a steamy September day.

The slow start resulted in the Titans struggling to a 6-3 lead at halftime.

Bortles, who wasn't sacked and did not have a turnover last week against the Texans, did not look sharp against the Titans.

Taylor (17-of-25 for 125 yards passing; 8-55 rushing) was solid on the final drive and most of the second half for Buffalo. Henry had most of those, including the game's first touchdown. The ball hit one of Lee's hands and bounced into the air. Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan had nice games coming off the edge, combining for two sacks and a forced fumble.

The Jaguars and Titans then exchanged punts. Adoree' Jackson turned in a big punt return, and was solid in coverage on defense. The Titans were able to find the end zone for the first time in the game after just two plays.

After Henry's run, tight end Delanie Walker scored on a 1-yard run, tight end Jonnu Smith scored on a 32-yard catch-and-run and fullback Jalston Fowler powered in from 3 yards out. Just ask the Jacksonville Jaguars, who were gouged for 179 yards rushing in a 37-16 drubbing Sunday.

As the Titans' defense started to thrive, the Jaguars' offense continued to falter. Jacksonville knows it won't get a lot from him, especially now that No. 1 receiver Allen Robinson is out for the season with a torn ACL. Following an extra point, the Titans were up 23-3 with 2:49 left in the third quarter.

Yes, there was excitement on offense, too, as Jameis Winston (18-of-30 for 204 yards, 1 TD) found his big guy, Mike Evans (7-93-1 receiving), for a gorgeous back-shoulder touchdown after missing newcomer DeSean Jackson by inches for Tampa's first score of 2017. With just over 10 minutes to play in the game, the Jaguars trailed 30-3. Last season the Jaguars only had two 100 yards rushing games and here heading into week 2 the Jaguars already sit with one. The former Heisman Trophy victor broke free for the game's first touchdown on a 17-yard burst in the third quarter and probably could have had a couple more if the Titans had used him on the goal-line (Delanie Walker and Jalston Fowler both vultured second-half touchdowns).

Fournette produced 61 total yards and a touchdown on 16 touches.

Still reveling in their defensive showcase in opening week, rookie Leonard Fournette and the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in an early AFC South Division matchup. Bortles hadn't thrown an interception in three-straight regular season games.
