Howard Students Interrupt James Comey's Convocation Speech In Protest

"We will not let the voice and opinions of white supremacy live on this campus", HUResist said on Twitter.

One example: Comey's comments in 2015 about the so-called Ferguson effect, the intense scrutiny of police actions that some in the law enforcement world said followed the killing of a black man outside St. Louis, Mo., and the increasing use of video to capture interactions between police and black communities across the country. Some students can be heard chanting "James Comey is not our homie", as well as "get out James Comey, get out our home". "I've listened to you for five minutes", Comey told the protesters.

He led the FBI's investigation into both Hillary Clinton alleged mishandling of work-related emails as Secretary of State, and alleged collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and the Russian government.

During his address to the historically black school, Comey was booed and heckled persistently by a faction of the students.

Demonstrators were shouting expletives about Mr Comey as others held "Black Lives Matter" signs just outside the auditorium, she adds. Comey had made similar comments about the so-called effect earlier. "I love the color of my skin!" "It's a place where people take sides rather than trying to understand - are they still on the right side?"

The protest was organized by a group calling itself Howard University Resist. The chanting lasted throughout the entire speech.

"There's great crisis our nation", said Rev. Dr. Bernard L. Richardson, as Comey bowed his head during the opening prayer.

The crowd gave him a standing ovation.

The protests, however, continued, with protesters singing "We Shall Not Be Moved", which was popularized as a protest song during the Civil Rights Movement.

'That's not the Howard University way, ' he scolded.

"James Comey represents an institution diametrically opposed to the interests of Black people domestically and overseas", the organization said in a statement.

The "resist" group complained Friday on Twitter that under Comey, 'the Federal Bureau of Investigation heavily surveilled BLM [Black Lives Matter] activists and protests'. He is donating the $100,000 compensation that comes with the position to a scholarship fund at the school. The book is scheduled to come out on May 1.

Well, it looks like it's James Comey's turn. On September 22, he delivered the keynote address at convocation at Howard University.
