Iranian Ballistic Missile Launch Was Faked

Iranian media ran clips of what it touted as a successful test launch, but analysts now say it was merely recycled footage of a test missile that blew up after flying 600 miles in a January launch.

Iran's foreign minister ripped President Trump on Wednesday for tweeting about an Iranian missile launch over the weekend that turned out to be a fake. "They are also working with North Korea".

An official told CNN, though, that electronic signals of a ballistic missile launch would have been picked up by various us assets in the region that keep tabs on Iran's weapons activities.

Yet not long after news of the launch was reported around the world, US President Donald Trump tweeted that "Iran just test-fired a Ballistic Missile [sic] capable of reaching Israel".

During his speech to the United Nations on September 19, Trump harshly criticized Iran, for allegedly sponsoring terrorism, and threatened to end the US -led deal with Iran over its nuclear program, negotiated by the Obama administration. However the Iranian military has publicly put its range at under 2,000 kilometers.

"As far as we can see, it did not happen." the official told CNN.

On Monday, the Israeli defense establishment confirmed that that Jewish state's intelligence also did not observe any indications that Iran had actually tested a Khorramshahr ballistic missile, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The president has ratcheted up his rhetoric toward the Iran in recent days, calling the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal an "embarrassment to the United States" on the floor of the United Nations last week.

Iran's new medium-range missile is suspected to be based from a North Korean design, which has a maximum range of almost 2,500 miles.

Reports of the launch came on the heels of widespread condemnation of Iran's ballistic missile program during the United Nations General Assembly and was widely interpreted as an act of defiance by Tehran.

Iran's defense minister said on Saturday foreign pressures would not affect Iran's missile program. "Not much of an agreement we have!"

"We never threaten anyone, but we do not tolerate threats from anyone", Rouhani had said, according to Fox News. "The Iran Deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into".

Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Tuesday that Iran is adhering to its obligations under the nuclear agreement, known officially as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
