Manchester United v Crystal Palace: Mourinho fears Pogba out long term

Manchester United v Crystal Palace: Mourinho fears Pogba out long term

"[Pogba's] injured, he can not play tomorrow", the boss declared.

Mourinho had previously refused to comment on those reports and claimed he had not even asked for an update about Pogba's status.

The severity of the hamstring issue that caused the 24-year-old to limp off early in the club's Champions League return against Basel has been shrouded in mystery.

Mourinho's verdict appears to line up with reports from earlier on Friday that United were fearing Pogba to be sidelined for at least seven more weeks from now until some time after the scheduled global break in mid-November.

"But with long-term injuries, I don't speak about them, so [Zlatan Ibrahimovic], Pogba, [Marcos] Rojo and these players, I don't think about them".

However, Mourinho likened the midfielder to other injured stars Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo, and he has been unable to put a timeframe on his return.

Discussing his side's fitness woes, the boss added: "We have to train and make decisions after training but I hope some of the players that couldn't play in Moscow maybe not all of them but hopefully some can recover".

"[Pogba's] injured, he can not play tomorrow", he said.

Mourinho also confirmed that Phil Jones and Michael Carrick would remain unavailable for that meeting with winless and rock-bottom Palace after both players missed the 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow due to unspecified injuries.

United host Palace tomorrow (3pm) hoping to take up top spot in the Premier League.

The France midfielder has been out since September 12 when he limped off in the first half of United's Champions League match against Basel.
