Rajiv Pratap Rudy says his resignation was Centre's 'decision, prerogative'

Rajiv Pratap Rudy says his resignation was Centre's 'decision, prerogative'

Rudy, whose exit from the Modi Cabinet was confirmed on Thursday night, was Minister of State in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, whereas, Bharti was heading the Union Water Resources Ministry.

The other ministers who resigned from their positions are Uma Bharti, Radhamohan Singh, Sanjeev Balyan and Giriraj Singh.

BJP President Amit Shah had met several senior ministers on Thursday morning.

A rejig of the government has been due for months now, especially after vacancies and transformed alliances. The Cabinet reshuffle may take place before Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaves for the Brics summit on Sunday.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley are also likely to attend the meet in Vridavan on Saturday.

Kalraj Mishra is likely to be offered a gubernatorial assignment, sources said. The last Cabinet reshuffle took place in July past year.

"This is a decision by the Prime Minister, the government and the party and we are the soldiers of the party".

Among the ministers who resigned, Pandey was named the Uttar Pradesh BJP chief earlier in the day, and insiders said that Rudy may also be allotted organisational responsibilities.

Rudy and Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh are two Rajput Ministers from Bihar. Additionally, Shah also held closed-door discussions with M Thambidurai of AIADMK which is looking at being part of the NDA at the Centre amid its two factions coming together in Tamil Nadu.

Just hours before Rudy's resignation, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, when asked about how much longer he would hold additional charge of the defence portfolio, said: "At least I hope not very long".

Besides Jaitley, three other union ministers are also holding additional charges of different ministries.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was among the probables to be removed from the Cabinet, considering the resignation offered by him following the back-toback train derailment incidents in UP's Muzaffarnagar and Auriya districts.

Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan is holding additional charge of the Environment portfolio following the death of Anil Madhav Dave in May. Karnataka will go for assembly polls next year.
