Saudi Arabia arrests Sheikh Salman al-Awdah

Saudi Arabia arrests Sheikh Salman al-Awdah

On June 5, the quartet cut diplomatic ties with Doha and imposed an air, sea and land blockade on Qatar - accusing it of supporting Iran and "extremists" in the region - an allegation strongly denied by Qatar.

The diplomatic crisis, the worst since the 1990 invasion of Kuwait by Iraq and the subsequent Persian Gulf War, has seen the Arab nations cut ties to Qatar, which hosts a major United States military base and will be the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The bitter dispute between Gulf states and Qatar threatened to deepen amid a slanging match between rival ministers over the status of Iran.

In response to Al-Muraikhi's accusation to Saudi Arabia that it wants to depose the Emir of Qatar and replace him with the foreign minister, Al-Qattan said that Saudi Arabia will never use these cheap methods and it doesn't want to change the regime.

Doha, however, refused to meet the demands and said that they were meant to force the country to surrender its sovereignty.

Arab foreign ministers meet during a regular session in Cairo.

Iran has been providing Qatar with food supplies amid the Saudi-led economic siege of the country.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Cairo Ahmed Qattan and Bahrain's ambassador to Cairo Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa said that they have proofs of Qatar's involvement in supporting terrorism in their countries. Following a meeting with the Kuwaiti emir where serious regional problems came up for discussion, Trump made a decision to act as a mediator between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

"Congratulations to Iran and soon, God willing, you will regret it", he said.

According to Al-Jolo, the four Arab countries which boycotted Qatar have lost a huge market which had previously relied heavily on their products. "If the Qatari brothers think that if the rapprochement with Iran would serve their interests, they are carrying out matters in a wrong way and they will be accountable for that", he said.

The Brotherhood, an Islamist movement designated a terrorist organisation by Saudi Arabia, is central to a dispute between the kingdom and neighbouring Qatar.

Israel's neighbors in the Middle East continue to sling mud at one another in their quarrel over Qatar.

Shoukry discussed Qatar's historic support for terrorism and funding terrorist groups, adding that Egypt has a 7000-year history and all its actions are responsible and based on facts.

Ankara, which has a military in Qatar, has signaled support for Doha in the diplomatic spat.
