Sen. Booker co-sponsoring Bernie Sanders' 'Medicare for all' bill

Sen. Booker co-sponsoring Bernie Sanders' 'Medicare for all' bill

Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand intends to co-sponsor Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) both announced that they meant to co-sponsor the legislation.

"You should not be punished because you are working-class or poor and be denied health care". The bill, which is backed by almost every big Democratic Party‬ name in the Senate, comes on the heals of several failures of the Republican Party to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare), a central campaign promise of President Donald Trump.

Booker is not the only high-profile Democratic senator to announce his support for the plan. Sen.

"I'm co-sponsoring @SenSanders' #MedicareForAll bill", Merkley tweeted.

In a statement, Merkley said, "Health care should be a right for every single American, not a privilege reserved for the healthy and the wealthy".

As it stands, there is already a national, single-payer healthcare bill languishing in the House, Rep. John Conyers' United States National Health Care Act‬, which the Michigan Democrat introduced on January 24, has 117 co-sponsors, and has been buried in committees ever since. "Brown and Franken, and has long supported". Last week, progressive darling Sen. Elizabeth Warren of MA and California Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), who is considered a rising star in the party, emerged as the bill's first co-sponsor. Booker, Gillibrand, Harris, and Warren are all rumored to be plotting presidential runs in 2020. Booker and Gillibrand's endorsements in particular are yet another sign that support for single-payer is likely going to be the standard in 2020, no longer a deviation from the party line. It would replace private health insurance markets and have the federal government foot all medical bills.

"My personal view is we've got to start looking at single-payer", Baucus said Thursday at Montana State University. "I think healthcare should be a right to all". "We're getting there. It's going to happen". Bernie Sanders's Medicare for All legislation, which is expected to be introduced later this week.
