World's former heaviest woman passes away in Abu Dhabi

Former world's heaviest woman Eman Ahmed who was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Abu Dhabi breathed her last on Monday.

Doctors at Abu Dhabi's Brujeel hospital said that multiple co-morbid complications including heart disease and kidney dysfunction led to her death.

Eman was being monitored in hospital with a view to starting physiotherapy to enable her regain use of her limbs when she passed away.

In May, the 36-year-old Ahmed was transferred to the VPS Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates for long-term treatment.

She was born weighing a hefty 4Kgs and was shortly diagnosed afterwards with the parasitic disease called elephantiasis.

Her sister Saimaa Selim said that she wanted to get down to just 15 stone, with the help of doctors. Doctors also diagnosed Abd El Aty with severe depression and began focusing on her mental health - while her family clamped down on interviews.

Earlier this year she had an incredible surgery which saw her lose around 600lbs, and she was keen to lose even more weight.

At the Dubai hospital, she was to reduce her weight by over 220 pounds in order to fit onto the operating table.

The VPS chairman and billionaire flew to see Atti and her family in their Alexandria home in February before her surgery. On May 4, she was taken back to Abu Dhabi.

She said inquiries at local hospitals by her family went unanswered, but after her sister Chaymaa went public with the problem, they finally offered help. However, it's clear in Eman's case that her issue was definitely not normal.

Dr. Mufazzal Lakdawala, who headed the team of doctors that treated her for obesity at Saifee Hospital, was unavailable for comment but expressed his condolences on Twitter.
