Firefighters battle raging fires in Napa, Calistoga

The fire is one of at least five brush fires burning in the region.

Napa, Sonoma and Yuba counties have all been affected.

Mandatory evacuation were for homes on Atlas Peak Road, including Silverado Country Club; Knights Valley to Tubbs Lane in Calistoga; Partrick Road; Monticello Road to Circle Oaks Subdivision; the Montecito area of Napa and Soda Canyon Road.

The Atlas Peak fire was the largest of several wildfires, quickly growing to more than 200 acres near Napa. The city lost a Kmart and an unknown number of other businesses and homes as the blaze shut down schools and forced patients at two hospitals to evacuate.

The Santa Rosa Police Department said the blaze jumped Highway 101 Monday morning and ignited structures near a shopping area, prompting another neighborhood evacuation.

"Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly", the warning said. "If in this area, you need to move out". The county is working to set up shelters at fairgrounds to house animals.

Crews rushed to the scene of a 20-acre fire at a salvage yard in Napa on Sunday afternoon.

Upwards of 300 firefighters are battling blazes in Napa County.

"We were trying to get to the room and the fire was very close", Alfonzo said.

"Our neighbor called and told us the sheriff had come - we had to evacuate now", he said. Biermann said the fires had burned more than 68 sq. miles (176 as of the morning. An estimat;ed 20,000 people have been evacuated, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Director Ken Pimlott said. The Anaheim Fire Department said the burst was being pushed by 25 miles per hour winds.

Alyssa O'Gorman and her family fled their home in the nick of time.

Meanwhile, as she takes refuge with a relative in Santa Rosa, O'Gorman can't stop thinking about about the valuables and keepsakes left behind in her home, which she now believes is gone.

"Around 3 a.m., there was a lot slamming of doors, shouting, auto engines revving, so, I get up and go downstairs", Jake Palmgren, a 20-year-old custom crush worker told Wine Enthusiast. "Not until I can see my house".

ABC7 News extended coverage of North Bay fires One of the fires has triggered the evacuation of Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa, Calif. Sutter Hospital in Santa Rosa is also under evacuation orders. A Hilton Hotel was reduced to smoldering ruins.

Flames were also burning near the Domaine Carneros winery.
