'Game Change' Author Accused of Sexual Harassment

'Game Change' Author Accused of Sexual Harassment

Political journalist Mark Halperin, 52, was just accused of sexual harassment - by five women!

The harassment reportedly took place when Halperin was the political director at ABC News in the mid-late '90s.

"During this period, I did pursue relationships with women that I worked with, including some junior to me", said Halperin, who serves as a political analyst on NBC and MSNBC's "Morning Joe".

Adding further to this he said, "I now understand from these accounts that my behavior was inappropriate and caused others pain".

Halperin, the co-author of the best-selling book "Game Change", told CNN Wednesday night that he's "deeply sorry" and is taking a "step back" from day-to-day work to deal with the situation.

Halperin, a well-known political talking head in Washington, was an NBC News analyst for years and frequently appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe.

One woman who spoke to CNN said that Halperin "just kissed me and grabbed my boobs" when she was invited to his office at ABC News in the early 2000s.

Halperin acknowledged and apologized for his inappropriate behavior in a statement to CNN on Wednesday, but denied grabbing a woman's breasts and pressing his genitals against three of the women.

ABC News declined to comment, as did NBC News, which is not involved with these allegations but now employs Halperin as a contributor.

CNN did not report whether any of the accusers will be filing legal suits against Halperin.

"We're going to be following this story as it develops", she said.

A fifth woman alleged Halperin was clothed when he placed his erect penis against her body without her consent.

The book, which will be co-written with John Heilemann, is about the 2016 presidential election. One woman said that she told a mentor about what had happened, but it's not clear if upper management at the network were ever informed. "Given I was so young and new I wasn't sure if that was the sort of thing that was expected of you if you wanted something from a male figure in news".

Two other women also claimed Halperin propositioned them while they were traveling together for work. They also stated that no formal complaints were filed against him at ABC News.
