Jerusalem joyful at Trump's crackdown on Iran

The US President has taken "the only reasonable approach", claimed the diplomat who headed Israel's foreign service when the West reached its deal with Iran.

"If Iran is compliant, if the European Union and China and Russian Federation continue to consider that the JCPOA can be applied, then that means the USA would have to take unilateral sanctions and we see what the situation is", Pouyanne said in the interview published on Tuesday.

Last week, Trump refused to formally certify that Iran was complying with the nuclear deal, defying both allies and adversaries.

Trump's move put Washington at odds with other parties to the accord - Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union - who say Washington can not unilaterally cancel an worldwide accord enshrined by a United Nations resolution.

He said Iran would stick by its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, which Trump has threatened to "terminate" unless the US Congress tightens sanctions on the country.

Khamenei further said that the USA is angry because the Islamic Republic has managed to spoil its plots in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and etc. And if Congress fails to strengthen enforcement, blocks Iran's route to a nuclear missile, and makes permanent guarantees in American law that Iran won't have nuclear arms, he may intervene to nix the deal.

In a major shift in US policy, Trump also said Washington will take a more confrontational approach to Iran over its ballistic missile program and its support for extremist groups in the Middle East.

"They must avoid interfering in our defence programme", Khamenei said.

"They (Europeans) ask why does Iran have missiles". Why do you have missiles yourselves? If Trump ditched the deal, "Iran will shred it".

It has called upon the Islamic Republic not to "undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons".

"If they ask questions like, 'Why Iran is active in the region?', well, it is none of their business", he said. "We do not think it is acceptable for the Europeans to join America in its bullying".
