Texans take knee to protest owner's controversial comment

Many Houston players reportedly considered a protest after hearing what McNair had said.

Dana Jacobson of CBS reports from the site of Sunday's Texans-Seahawks game that veteran cornerback Johnathan Joseph told her that the report was not regarded as persuasive by all players.

ESPN The Magazine reported McNair had said last week, "We can't have the inmates running the prison", after other owners in an October 18 National Football League meeting talked of business concerns surrounding the anthem protests.

While some team members had protested previously, this week's demonstration appeared to be in response to owner Bob McNair's comments in an ESPN The Magazine article saying "we can't have the inmates running the prison", in reference to prior protests.

It is the first time this year that any Texans players have demonstrated during the anthem, beyond when the team stood with linked arms during Week 3.

The NFL Players Association has invited McNair, Commissioner Roger Goodell and unsigned quarterback Colin Kaepernick to a Monday meeting in Philadelphia.

Despite rumors that the players would remove the Texans decals from their helmets, they ended up leaving them on.

"As I said yesterday, I was not referring to our players when I made a very regretful comment during the owners meetings last week".

Nevertheless, Texans players were offended enough by the statement that they reportedly wanted to walk out of practice, and it took a group meeting with coach Bill O'Brien and general manager Rick Smith to get majority to stay.

McNair's comments have not been well-received in any part of NFL circles, with players from all around the league ripping him during the latter part of this week.

I wonder if some players will kneel or sit next week as well.
