Trump attacks mayor of Puerto Rico's storm-hit capital city

Trump attacks mayor of Puerto Rico's storm-hit capital city

"If anybody out there is listening to us, we are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency".

Trump tweeted several days after the hurricane hit Puerto Rico on September 20 that the territory is in "deep trouble", unlike the storm-battered states of Florida and Texas, which he said "are doing great".

Trump responded on Saturday by claiming Cruz has "poor leadership". "What did you make of President Trump tweeting that Puerto Ricans, quote, 'want everything to be done for them?'"

U.S. Rep. Albio Sires in a statement criticized President Donald Trump for his early morning tweets lambasting the Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Many others have also jumped onto Twitter to criticize Trump, particularly after his latest "ingrate" tweet.

Pence said he learned that "while our joint field operation at the convention center in San Juan has more than 1,000 personnel working out in a football field environment, the Mayor of San Juan has only visited our joint field operation once".

"I this it's clear where the "poor leadership" lies", Lady Gaga posted in a response to Trump.

He said he would be visiting Puerto Rico on Tuesday with his wife Melania and would "hopefully be able to stop at the US Virgin Islands" too.

Trump's criticism comes on the heels of criticism of Trump's effort to get supplies, electricity and other relief to the U.S. Island after the hurricane devastation.

"The mayor is living on a cot", Honore said. Just to see the mud and the debris filled with the rivers that have overflowed, seeing people who are trapped, and seeing people risking their lives to rescue them, and the president saying them.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello said political differences shouldn't get in the way of relief work. "This is a point where we can't look at small differences".

"The bottom line is we've had a joint field office established for numerous days in San Juan", he continued.

The media outlets who have interviewed Cruz were not spared from the president's criticism.

Today, the president is saying that "they" (meaning either officials or residents of Puerto Rico) are not doing enough themselves to recover from the crisis left by Hurricane Maria, and that "they want everything to be done for them".

Villaseñor promptly informs him that Puerto Rico is a US territory.
