Children Shot In Cleveland, One Killed

According to the Cleveland Police Department, five boys - ages 14 and 16 - were standing near a liquor store on Buckeye Road when they said three to four men pulled out handguns and started firing at them.

A bullet struck the boy in the torso when he stepped out of his father's nearby beauty supply store to see what was happening, the Cleveland.com news website said. The kid passed on from the discharge wound, police said.

Officials in Florida had been looking for the boy and his 53-year-old grandmother since Wednesday, when they failed to pick up the teen's father at the airport.

Police said the homes of the teen and his grandmother were ransacked.

Police Chief Calvin Williams has sent his condolences to the family of the dead child, who hasn't been publicly identified. One victim was killed and the five others were taken to area hospitals.

Williams says police are investigating and are appealing for the public's help in finding out who did the shooting, which occurred between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson has additionally requested for people in general's assistance.
