Jennifer Aniston & Reese Witherspoon Morning Show Drama Picked Up By Apple!

Jennifer Aniston & Reese Witherspoon Morning Show Drama Picked Up By Apple!

Apple Inc. ordered a TV series starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, two of the most successful actresses of their generation, in the clearest sign yet of the tech giant's intent to make a big splash in Hollywood.

Apple promises "an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, exploring the unique challenges faced by the women (and men) who carry out this daily televised ritual".

However, while details about the morning-show project are vague, given the setting of New York City and the cutthroat world of television news, the show will likely be fairly adult in content.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the deal is for a straight-to-series, two-season order of 20 episodes for the untitled drama.

The dynamic duo-who haven't acted together since Witherspoon's cameo on Friends-will star, executive produce and share ownership of the show with former HBO head of drama, Michael Ellenberg.

In addition to reuniting Witherspoon and Aniston (Recode resident "Friends" expert Johana Bhuiyan reminds me that Witherspoon guest-starred as Aniston's sister on that show), the show is important because it illustrates Apple's focus on landing Very Big Names as it prepares to dive deeply into the TV business.

Stetler will serve as the show's consultant and House of Cards writer Jay Carson will executive produce as well as pen the series. Aniston and Witherspoon will produce via their respective production companies, Echo Films and Hello Sunshine. Apple has also committed to making "Amazing Stories", an anthology series produced by Spielberg and "Hannibal" creator Bryan Fuller.

This will mark Aniston's first return to a regular series role since "Friends" signed off on NBC back in 2004.

Neither show has a premiere date, and it's yet to be seen how Apple's original programming will be available for customers to stream.
