Carrie Fisher's dog perks up watching 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

Carrie Fisher's dog perks up watching 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

Fans lined the streets outside the movie theatre as actors dressed as legendary "Star Wars" characters Darth Vader, R2-D2 and C-3PO walked the red carpet and the Salvation Army brass band performed.

The beloved late actress was well known for her close and loving relationship with Gary, who was originally her therapy dog. She makes her final appearance as Leia in "The Last Jedi". That was the very first question.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson opened up about Fisher's "beautiful" portrayal of the quick and clever Leia, explaining that he didn't actually change anything about her narrative.

You'll have to see the movie (if you haven't already in the last 12 hours) to find out if Space Gary slurps his tongue as endearingly as IRL Gary does. Fisher tragically passed away a year ago and Hamill has frequently spoken about his long friendship with her that began on the set of Star Wars.

Carrie Fisher's Beloved Dog Gary Makes Cameo in Newest 'Star Wars' Film 'The Last Jedi'

"We have a lovely, complete performance from [Fisher] that I think audiences deserve to see, and I think it will mean a lot for them, that ray of hope from Leia". Luckily we have a fantastic storyteller in J.J. Abrams who is going to figure out a way to bring it home in the end, that's going to be satisfying, I know he's going to.

And premiere night wasn't just for the stars of the movie.

Especially ahead of the one-year anniversary of Carrie's passing. I don't know, if I say that I'm doing good, I'm too happy. Directed by Rian Johnson, The Last Jedi picks up with Rey undergoing her training with Luke Skywalker while The First Order plots a counterattack against The Resistance.
