Claire's Pulls Makeup Kits from Shelves Due to Asbestos Concerns

Claire's Pulls Makeup Kits from Shelves Due to Asbestos Concerns

Further testing on 17 different products purchased in 9 different states revealed much of the same - tremolite asbestos was detected in every test, according to WJAR.

Earlier this year retailer Justice also recalled cosmetics after a report said there was a product that had toxic substances, including asbestos.

The privately held company, whose products are aimed at children, is offering full refunds.

A mother in America has discovered that a makeup kit from Claire's that was given to her six-year-old daughter contained asbestos.

According to Rhode Island's WJAR, Kristie Warner had her doubts about the glittery makeup kit. Exposure to asbestos is has been linked to mesothelioma, which is 100% fatal.

When she received the results, Warner, who works for a Providence, Rhode Island law firm, said she was appalled.

In response to the report Claire's issued a statement saying they had taken the "precautionary measure of pulling items in question from sale and will be conducting an immediate investigation into the alleged issues". "But you just assume that a children's product would be safe".

Speaking of the moment she found out, Warner told NBC: 'I physically sank.

Warner said she was shocked when she heard the news and then just tried to figure out how something of that nature could end up inside their home.

Warner and her boss made a decision to purchase 17 additional Claire's makeup products from different states and have them tested as well.

The statement explained that the safety of its customers was of paramount importance.

Claire's - which has over 3,000 stores in 36 countries - has released a list of nine products including eye shadows, blushes, and compact powders that have been pulled from its shelves as part of the asbestos case. Once more information becomes available Claire's said it would take any necessary action.
