Display Fingerprint Sensor Soon To Be A Reality

Display Fingerprint Sensor Soon To Be A Reality

Clear ID is expected to be the same familiar fingerprint scanner, however it no longer takes up a spot on the almost invisible bezel trend of 2018, a shift we've seen in every new phone (with a few exceptions) that is only getting more exaggerated.

Synaptics, a USA biometrics company has announced that it is working on an in-display in partnership with top five OEM.

When smartphone manufacturers moved to infinity-style displays in 2017, virtually removing all bezels around the screen, many expected some to adopt in-display fingerprint scanners. Synaptics is a known Samsung manufacturing partner, and when it announced the FS9100 optical fingerprint sensor, there were rumours that it could come to the Galaxy S8 however, that did not happen.

In its press release, Synaptics makes several implied comparison's to Apple's (AAPL) use of facial recognition, which Apple is arming with a $390 million investment in supplier Finisar (FNSR) announced this morning.

Synaptics did not divulge which smartphone maker it is working in tandem with except for the fact that it is a top five OEM.

As Apple killed the Touch ID in favour of Face ID, it is not the end of the world. With this suite Clear ID delivers security. The phone would carry a 1.5mm thick display with glass protector, the cover glass and the original OLED display. It's a first official commercial inbuilt in-display scanner having highly secure authentication tech.

This might be a sight of relieve for some users that would still prefer fingerprint sensors, compared to facial recgonition, we have seen that hackers have already found multiple ways to fool the Face ID, which is also relatively easy to do.

The fingerprint sensor will be work better with wet, dry, and cold fingers.

This is also just weeks after Apple revealed plans for a laser-based 3D sensor in 2019 iPhones, that would reportedly fire lasers out of the rear of the phone for more accurate AR and VR depth. Synaptics will showcase the new technology at the CES in January 2018.

The upcoming CES 2018 would be unbelievable as many technology giants and smartphones manufacturers will reveal their most fantastic technology gadgets with innovative features in the event.
