Man City Thump Tottenham For 16th Consecutive Win

Spurs were firmly second best at the Etihad as Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and a double from Raheem Sterling widened the chasm between the sides to a whopping 21 points.

Despite the talismanic David Silva, who had scored four goals in his past three outings, missing a league game for the first time this season, Pep Guardiola's all-conquering juggernaut rolled on to move 14 points clear of nearest rival Manchester United at the top of the table.

Pep Guardiola saluted his "humble" Manchester City stars after the red-hot Premier League leaders hammered Tottenham 4-1 on Saturday to make it 16 successive wins.

The conversation turned to one of the themes of the week - how to behave at the moment of victory - and, specifically, the accusation from the Manchester United manager, José Mourinho, that City had let themselves down after their triumph at Old Trafford last Sunday; that they had shown a lack of respect.

"Today was a good day", the German worldwide said.

Praising the club's Abu Dhabi-based owners for allowing him to assemble such a talented team, Guardiola said: "We are on a good streak".

"Since August we are so happy and I admire the most the way we play without the ball - thank you to the club to provide me with these unbelievable players".

Pochettino's decisiona will impact Guardiola's tactical plan and vice versa throughout the game, and that's why this is such an interesting coaching battle to watch.

Guardiola's put-down that the Londoners were simply "that Harry Kane team" ultimately rang true as the England global proved the visitors' sole outlet before Christian Eriksen's well-taken but largely meaningless goal after the hosts had raced four goals ahead.

"Amid talk of City perhaps going the whole season unbeaten, De Bruyne said they were focused purely on their main goal of winning the title".

"I don't think we face any psychological issues", Pochettino said. "They are the best team in Europe, not just England on form".

"It's a massive game and a massive challenge for everyone".

"The day after (the penalty miss) he came in and held his hand up, he spoke to the players and myself and made the point that he would make it up to team, and that is what he has done", Palace manager Roy Hodgson said. The same fate befell Guardiola's outstanding teams at Barca and Bayern after long winning runs.

At some point, though, City will drop points of even lose a game. All three clubs, they supported me and all the decision we believed and they provided me outstanding players.
