Nintendo is delaying the Switch's 64GB game cards

While this might be a problem for the American developers of Nintendo Switch games.

If you've been playing third party games on the Nintendo Switch you may have run into a worrying trend already - developers forcing the player to download sizeable chunks of data before they can play.

So how will that possibly affect Switch owners negatively you ask?

According to a journalist called Takashi Mochizuki from the Wall Street Journal.

The Nintendo Switch has been one of Nintendo's biggest success stories, but it's not flawless. The next generation of Switch games are going to be larger, not smaller, so one of three things could happen. Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and ARMS are all games that take 2 to 8GB of internal memory in the Nintendo Switch. But developers who are looking to put out cross-platform releases are used to having up to 50 GB of breathing room - and a lot of players expect them to fill it.

They said the notice disappointed some software makers, especially USA -based publishers that often produce data-heavy games.

One of the games of the year, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - which also came out for Wii U - sold 738,026 units in the hands of consumers.

So what does this mean for next year's Switch games? Nintendo apparently intentionally sought game cards instead of discs for the Switch as part of its effort to make the system more portable, which is one of its defining attributes.

KitGuru Says: While I'm happy to pay a bit of a premium to game on the go, it seems like the increasing costs of storage while also paying more for cartridges will impact on the Switch's selection moving forward.
