South Korea creates North Korea nuclear monitoring team

South Korea creates North Korea nuclear monitoring team

"Today's resolution exemplifies the serious, collective will of the global community that we will continue to put maximum pressure on North Korea until it shows seriousness and takes concrete actions toward the goal of denuclearization", Japanese Ambassador Koro Bessho said in his remarks following the vote.

Tension has been rising over North Korea's nuclear and missile programmes, which it pursues in defiance of years of U.N. Security Council resolutions, with bellicose rhetoric coming from both Pyongyang and the White House.

The United States and China will jointly monitor the implementation of sanctions on North Korea, Japanese daily Asahi Shimbun reported, citing us officials.

The document further restricts supplies of crude oil and oil products and insists all countries expel North Korean workers in a span of 24 months.

The Express also quoted the spokesman as saying: "As the USA set its diplomatic and security policy at crushing us militarily and is publicly aiming a sword at us, we will make the United States bitterly regret its strategy with our cannons".

The third raft of sanctions imposed on the North this year, sparked by last month's ICBM test, also received the backing of China - the North's sole major ally and economic lifeline.

South Korea, for its part, offered encouragement for the path of diplomacy and urged the North to join the upcoming Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

The announcement comes on the heels of growing calls for South Korea's armed forces to establish a so-called "control tower" dedicated to exclusively handling North Korea affairs.

China called on Monday for all countries to make constructive efforts to ease tension after North Korea said the latest United Nations sanctions against it are an act of war and tantamount to a complete economic blockade.

The sanctions also order the repatriation of North Korean workers sent overseas to earn much needed revenue for Kim Jong-Un's regime. The threat from Pyongyang has come under increased focus in 2017, as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un presided over significant advancements in the country's long-range missile and nuclear weapons program.

Ambassador Park Chull-joo, participating as an observer since South Korea is not now a member of the Security Council, said, "However narrow and bumpy it may be, the road toward peaceful denuclearization through dialogue is still open and available".

To be prohibited similarly are exports to North Korea of industrial equipment, machinery, transportation vehicles and industrial metals.
