Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for Chelsea v Arsenal semi-final

The ban means Wenger will miss Arsenal's FA Cup trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, next week's EFL Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea, and their Premier League game at Bournemouth on Sunday 14 January.

They had 21 shots to just eight from Arsenal, yet the tie remains on a knife-edge heading into the second leg at the Emirates Stadium on January 24.

The Gunners got the better of Chelsea in the FA Cup final and Community Shield previous year.

Blues boss, Antonio Conte, named a very strong team for the game, but they were unable to see off a patched-up Arsenal squad.

It was in effect on Monday for the first time in an English club match, when Brighton beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup third round, but it wasn't actually called on then or in the other League Cup semi-final clash between Manchester City and Bristol City on Tuesday.

After a tepid opening from Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette escaped the Chelsea defence to collect Jack Wilshere's pass, but the French striker wasted the chance as he scuffed a hurried shot wide.

Moses came close again shortly before the half-hour mark with another left-footed snapshot towards the bottom corner, but once again Ospina was down smartly to deny the Chelsea wing-back, with a little help from the woodwork.

Chelsea responded with their own chance two minutes later when Victor Moses cut inside before drilling a low strike towards the near post which David Ospina needed two attempts to collect with Cesc Fabregas lurking.

When Maitland-Niles went down under pressure from Moses in the area, referee Martin Atkinson consulted the Video Assistant Referee, but no penalty was given. The former Everton midfielder continues to recover from hamstring surgery.
