Chelsea set to beat Spurs and sign Everton midfielder Barkley for £15m

Chelsea set to beat Spurs and sign Everton midfielder Barkley for £15m

Chelsea are set to take their season's spending past the £200m mark after making a £15m bid for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.

The Blues have retained an interest in the 24-year-old, who they came close to landing in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

The England global has now returned to training after a painstaking rehabilitation and Antonio Conte, the Chelsea head coach, wants to bolster his squad in January.

Barkley reportedly turned down a mega money new offer from the Blues late last season, after former boss Ronald Koeman giving him an ultimatum of sign it, or be sold. According to report, Antonio Conte is willing to shell out £15 million to cut a deal this month, and the deal could be complete as soon as Friday with suggestions that Barkley was in London.

New boss Sam Allardyce has always been resigned to the playmaker's departure and Tottenham were expected to rival Chelsea for Barkley.

"I think the club was resigned before I got here that they were going to lose Ross". However, now it looks like Conte's words have been heard by the board as they go after one of his main transfer targets.

The England midfielder, who have just six months left of his current Toffees deal though he's not featured for Everton all season, recently returned to training with the first team and has played in a behind closed doors friendly.
