Four policemen killed in Kashmir bombing

Four policemen killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Sopore of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district.

The terror attack has been claimed by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), one of the most notorious militant outfits in J&K.

Reports said that at around 10:05 am, the IED planted by militants beneath a shop went off near Haaritar area of Sopore, resulting in injuries to four policemen.

Srinagar: Denouncing the killing of four policemen in an IED blast in Sopore, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday urged the people to work shoulder to shoulder to break the "vortex of violence" in the state. The place was cordoned off and a search operation is underway, a police officer told news agency IANS.

Authorities had deployed a large number of security forces in the market and other areas of Sopore to maintain law and order situation in the wake of the protest shutdown call given by the separatists.

Meanwhile all entry and exit points are sealed by security forces in the town.

The militants had attacked the 185th battalion camp of the Central Reserve Police Force in Awantipora around 2 am on 31 December.

ASI Irshad Ahmad is survived by aged mother about 72 years old, wife, two sons Nadeem Irshad about 19 years old, Sahil Irshad about 10 years old, two daughters Fiza Irshad about 16 years old, and Toiba Bano about 13 years old.

He said constable Ghulam Nabi has aged parents, pregnant wife, four-year-old daughter Faheeqa Nabi, two brothers and two unmarried sisters. All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic remained off the roads. The ADGP Armed Police, SA Mujtaba, the SSP Baramulla, the SSP Sopore, the CO of army's 22RR and the CO of paramilitary 179 CRPF also paid tributes to the slain policemen.
