GOP lawmaker asks Capitol Police to arrest undocumented immigrants at SOTU

GOP lawmaker asks Capitol Police to arrest undocumented immigrants at SOTU

Despite Gosar's request, most of the immigration-related invited guests to Trump's State of the Union are protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which is set to expire in March.

"These are people who are in the country illegally and anyone conspiring with them to keep them here illegally, to invite them to a State of the Union address, Jeff Sessions should have them all arrested and I mean the congressmen", Coulter said.

Republican Rep. Paul Gosar asked them to consider "arresting any illegal aliens in attendance". Therefore, the 24 DREAMers who are in attendance at Trump's State of the Union speech likely do not have to worry about getting arrested.

He also called for the arrest of anyone using fraudulent social security numbers and identification to pass through security.

After the Charlottesville neo-Nazi and "alt-right" rally that ended with the death of an activist protesting white supremacists, Rep. Gosar falsely claimed the event may have been funded by George Soros and was created to sow racial discord in an attempt to embarrass the president.

President Trump is expected to address immigration and DACA during tonight's State of the Union Address. "Any illegal aliens attempting to go through security, under any pretext of invitation or otherwise, should be arrested and deported", said Congressman Gosar.

Lawmakers quickly began condemning Gosar's tweets Tuesday afternoon.

"What he said is outside the circle of decency in terms of members of Congress", Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, told reporters. Capitol Police did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

Sen. Jeff Flake, another Arizona Republican, has repeatedly clashed with his own party for advocating protections for dreamers, but Gosar's views have significant support among his constituents.
