Group: Israel OKs more construction in West Bank settlements

"The government calls on the Israeli authorities to put an end to the construction of settlements as it contravenes International Law and hinders the viability of the two-state solution for the Israel-Palestine conflict", said the Spanish Foreign Ministry in a press statement.

In a unilateral decision, on December 6, U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital by announcing the relocation of the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. "The decision was made and we will move our embassy to Israel's capital", Pence stated.

"There is nearly nothing left for the United States to do before it clearly declares a state of war against the Palestinian people, its authority and leadership", wrote commentator Rajab Abu Serreya in the widely-circulated Palestinian newspaper Al-Ayyam.

Local and worldwide human rights organisations expressed their belief that the settlement bypass road projects are a new expression of Israel's systematic policy of apartheid against the Palestinians. Israeli soldiers fired tear gas and threw stun grenades.

Some half a million Israelis now live on more than 100 Jewish-only settlements built since Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967.

The Israeli decision will lead to the confiscation of more Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank.
