Jake Tapper pulls plug on Stephen Miller's trainwreck interview

WASHINGTON — Isolated from his political allies and cut off from his financial patrons, Stephen K. Bannon, President Donald Trumps former chief strategist, issued a striking mea culpa on Sunday for comments he had made that were critical of the presidents eldest son.

In the book, Bannon tells Wolff that the decision by "the three senior campaign guys" to meet with the Russians without lawyers was "treasonous" and "unpatriotic". A furious Trump responded by saying Bannon "has lost his mind". Many in the president's circle had been urging Trump for weeks to publicly distance himself from Bannon and used the fallout from the book to persuade the president to server ties with him.

Shortly after, Trump tweeted his approval of Miller's appearance. The president attacked the book again on Sunday. As Tapper tried to move on to specific questions, like the president's recent comments about Steve Bannon, Miller interrupted to praise Trump for everything that he accomplished in the 2016 election.

"It's tragic and unfortunate that Steve would make these grotesque comments so out of touch with reality and obviously so vindictive and the whole White House staff is deeply disappointed in his comments, which were grotesque", Miller told CNN's "State of the Union". The author is a garbage author of a garbage book. That echoed an attention-grabbing statement from him in the early days of the administration, when Miller asserted in a television interview that Trump's executive powers "will not be questioned".

Finally, having enough, Tapper said, "I get it - there is one viewer that you care about right now and you're being obsequious, you're being a factotum in order to please him", Tapper said.

"I've had to put up with the Fake News from the first day I announced that I would be running for President".

Miller described Wolff as a "garbage author of a garbage book". Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well. The congressman added regarding Bannon's statement "and especially with so much of the book's veracity in question, it is helpful to have the added background". "It's that bad", Wolff responded. "What happened here? What's going on here?"

"We talk about some of the most serious matters facing America and the world, complex issues, the president is engaged, he understands the complexity, he asks really hard questions of our team at CIA", Pompeo said on "Fox News Sunday".

"It is not an exaggeration or unreasonable to say this is 25th Amendment kind of stuff", Wolff said.

"Leaving Camp David for the White House".

"I'm around them all the time", Haley said.
