Liverpool-bound Keita going nowhere in January

Liverpool-bound Keita going nowhere in January

RB Leipzig have put speculation "to bed" and declared they will not allow Naby Keita to join Liverpool in January.

The Reds confirmed previous year that they had successfully agreed a £48m deal to sign Keita on July 1, 2018, but the recent sale of Philippe Coutinho has forced the Reds to attempt to bring the transfer forward.

The midfielder showed his class with a superb deflected goal from the edge of the box in Saturday's 3-1 home win over Schalke, a victory that moved Leipzig up to second in the league table.

But Leipzig have today taken to social media to confirm that Keita would in fact be going nowhere until 30th June, as originally agreed with Liverpool.

Naby Keita is reportedly on the verge of being unveiled as a Liverpool player, even though he is not due to sign until the summer.

Clubs know how much Liverpool ended up with at the end of the Coutinho saga, and that's giving RB Leipzig, and no doubt others, confidence in asking for big fees themselves.

Philippe Coutinho's signing with Barcelona has caused many moves in Liverpool.

Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick confirmed that Liverpool had expressed a desire to bring Keita's move forward, but he reiterated that the Bundesliga side intend to put their foot down.

Naby Keïta will be a Leipzig player until the end of the current season according to the club, who have released a statement to that effect this morning.

Former Liverpool FC star Murphy believes Klopp needs to secure a midfield signing in the mould of Steven Gerrard if the Reds harbour ambitions of reaching the next level.
