McIlroy 1 shot behind leaders in Abu Dhabi

Rory McIlroy will begin the final round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship one shot behind co-leaders Thomas Pieters and Ross Fisher after producing a sensational 65 on Saturday.

But it is McIlroy they will all be watching as tomorrow's final round unfolds, the four-time major victor desperate to get his year off to a positive start at a tournament that has tormented him over the course of his professional career. Northern Ireland's McIlroy is on 16-under 200 overall with the former world No. 1 playing his first event since October.

The four-time major winner's continued his day-to-day scoring improvement with a round of 65, following on from Thursday's 69 and Friday's 66.

On Saturday, he started with three birdies in first four holes before dropping a shot on the fifth, and then played solid golf and made key par saves in his 65.

As the world's best golfers bask in the sunshine of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi Golf Club has opened its doors to the public with a brand new video, offering an insight into one of the game's most recognisable venues.

"I putted really well and hit the ball very well". I've had a lot of close calls here, I think about six top threes or something like that.

McIlroy - whose last win was the Tour Championship on the PGA Tour in September 2016 - said: "All in all, it was another great round and another really good confidence builder". It has felt like a while since I've won.

"It's felt like a while since I've won and just to give myself these chances; I gave myself a chance at the end of the year at Close House and wasn't able to do it. I'm excited to get back on the horse and give myself another chance tomorrow".

"Paul Dunne played too well for me". Wicklow, shot a third round score of 65 to add to his previous rounds of 68 and 70, leaving the 2017 British Masters victor on 203, 4 shots off the leaders.

Peter Lawrie joined Nathan Murphy and Joe Molloy on "Golf Weekly" to discuss McIlroy's return to tournament golf after a three month break.
