Minimum wage hike goes into effect in NY, NJ

Minimum wage hike goes into effect in NY, NJ

The new figure will be set at €9.55 per hour - an increase of 30c per hour.

Minimum wage workers in Ireland will see an increase in their pay cheques from Monday, 1 January.

. This marks the second increase toward a statewide $15 minimum wage.

The new minimum wage would result in an Irish worker taking home a gross income of €1,613.95 per month, and €1,521.57 after tax. This is the third increase for fast-food employees in NY since a state wage board recommended the pay raises in 2015. Cuomo estimates more than 2.3 million people will benefit from the wage increase. Their pay goes up by 15 cents an hour starting today January 1.

For fast-food workers outside of New York City, the minimum wage will rise to $12.75 an hour on Dec. 31, 2018, $13.75 an hour on Dec. 31, 2019 and $14.50 an hour on Dec. 31, 2020.

However, the minimum wage increases only apply to restaurants that are part of a chain of 30 or more locations nationwide. For these employees, the state wage is tied to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, which requires an act of Congress and the President's signature to change.

It was announced back in October 2017's Budget that the Irish minimum wage would be increased, with the new sum to be tallied in 2018.

Minimum wage increases are expected to have a "ripple effect" in OH, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, as businesses increase wages for entry level employees, they typically also raise the wages of those in the upper tiers, such as supervisors and managers.

Minimum wage workers are already making more than that in Emeryville, where the minimum wage is $15.20 - reportedly the highest rate in the country.
