Snap sheds two dozen employees as user numbers fall

Snap sheds two dozen employees as user numbers fall

The cuts were carried across 8 teams, with less than half of them reportedly being from Snap's content team according to a report from Axios.

Snap subsequently confirmed the layoffs to Cheddar on Thursday. The "ouch" moment here is that the leak happened the next day the company issued a memo warning the employees to stay away from the confidential data.

Numerous layoffs are said to come from Snap's team of human editors on its content team, though Cheddar reports some Snap employees based out of its NY and London offices were informed they needed to relocate to Snap's main Los Angeles campus. The article sited former and current unnamed Snap employees as sources. "The government, our investors, and other third parties can also seek their own remedies against you for what you disclosed". According to Cheddar, though, Snapchat has been firing employees in batches of two dozen at a time since September.

"You can face personal financial liability even if you yourself did not benefit from the leaked information. The government can even put you in jail".

In his memo, O'Sullivan wrote that company has "a culture of sharing information across many teams".

"There is an obvious caveat, of course, which is that not all problems can be solved with scalable solutions - in the case of content review, for example, our editorial team plays an important role", said Spiegel in the memo that was released. Cheddar's report, which cites people familiar with the matter, suggests that a handful of employees in the firm's NY and London offices were also asked to relocate to the company's Los Angeles headquarters.

The memo, which surfaced online, details Spiegel's message on the importance of building an organization that scales internally when it comes to the business.
