Armed fan who broke into YouTuber's home was shot dead by police

The duo were forced to call Austin Police from the enclosed space after the man, identified as New Mexico local Christopher Giles, fired at least one round in their home in the early hours of Monday morning (local time). The officers announced their presence, heard a single gunshot come from the auto and returned fire. Giles fired at police, and an officer fired back, interim Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said. No available records say what they found on those electronics, and Albuquerque and Austin police declined to comment on the case.

The official ruling on cause of death is pending but investigators believe Giles died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

. They say they expect to find "evidence related to the planned burglary and homicide" and describe him as an avid YouTube viewer who was "single, lonely and disturbed".

Free and Turney have not responded to interview requests about the incident, but both have tweeted to assure their fans that they're doing OK and thank Austin police for their response.

The search warrant also revealed notes Giles wrote in his phone that provided more insight into his motives.

The warrant details how Turney and Free awoke in their home at around 3:40 a.m., January 26, to the sound of breaking glass followed by a gunshot. An officer returned fire.

"I want Gavin Free to die alone, with no children", said one note. When the deputies searched the vehicle, they found a handgun in the suspect's hand, and a New Mexico driver's license with Giles' name and photo on it.

The man, who police later discovered had driven eleven hours from Albuquerque, New Mexico, turned out to be a deranged fan of Turney, a popular vlogger and video game streamer with over 340K subscribers.

"Thank y'all so, so much for each and every kind message today and a special thank you to the @Austin_Police for their quick response that night and their ongoing support during this hard time".
