ESPN and FOX reportedly battling for Peyton Manning

ESPN and FOX reportedly battling for Peyton Manning

ESPN may "back up the truck" for Manning and make him an enticing offer, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.

It's no surprise that both networks are making a run at Manning.

Former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is a logical candidate - he has plenty of experience in front of the camera, he obviously has plenty of football knowledge and he has a witty personality.

Peyton Manning has yet to say anything publicly about whether or not he is considering a career in television broadcasting in the near future, but it has become quite clear that he could have nearly any job he wants in that field.

According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, both ESPN and FOX are very eager to give Manning his first shot at joining the National Football League broadcast booth. Tony Romo was the biggest analyst hire in many, many years for any network, and Manning would eclipse him as far as interest is concerned.

Currently, Manning has yet to commit to going to the TV booth.

In fact, ESPN would reportedly consider bumping Sean McDonough out of his role as the lead play-by-play announcer for "Monday Night Football" if Manning preferred to work with someone else. Steve Levy, Joe Tessitore and Dave Pasch have been noted as possible replacements for McDonough if the network plans to go that route. As is stands, both are targeting the same guy to take their color job: Peyton Manning. Manning declined. FOX is still in the hunt (especially for the prime time slots with Thursday Night Football), but they now have incredible competition with ESPN desperately needing to replace Gruden. Matt Hasselbeck, who got to broadcast the Pro Bowl as a tryout for the "MNF" gig, would be one of the candidates.

The moving parts are interesting, and it starts with Manning and whether he'd want to do color commentary.
