Former NFL lineman's shotgun 'revenge' Instagram post prompts school closing

Former NFL lineman's shotgun 'revenge' Instagram post prompts school closing

The caption to the photo on the Instagram story: "When you're a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge".

Martin also tagged two of his former Dolphins teammates, Mike Pouncey and Richie Incognito, on the post.

Shortly thereafter, Martin's former high school, Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles, was shut down after the threat. "We are working closely with law enforcement and will share more information when we are able".

"The individual we believe responsible for the social media post in question has been detained and our investigation is ongoing", the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement to ESPN.

Incognito and Pouncey were accused of bullying and harassing Martin during his tenure with Miami Dolphins, treatment which eventually prompted Martin to leave the Dolphins abruptly during the middle of the 2013 season. Incognito did not play the entire 2014 season, but later signed with the Buffalo Bills, where he still plays.

The post by Mr. Martin, a 2008 Westlake graduate, follows the February 14 shooting massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Martin was the subject of a bullying scandal a few years back when he was part of the Dolphins. But he resurfaced Thursday when he posted a chilling story on his Instagram page.

In the wake of the Florida shooting, there have been a flurry of school shooting threats in the Southland area that have led to multiple arrests.

One source at Harvard-Westlake said Martin has been detained over the incident, though police said there was "no credible threat" against students. Martin left the team abruptly and later said that he was under psychological duress and had considered suicide. Martin attended Harvard-Westlake before going to college at Stanford. Martin never played a down with the Panthers.

"I have no desire to ever see or talk to him", Martin told USA Today at the time.
