Alliance of American Football to kick off inaugural season in 2019

Alliance of American Football to kick off inaugural season in 2019

Organizers of the Alliance of American Football announced on Tuesday their plans to launch the league next year on February 9th, six days after the NFL's Super Bowl. And while it's far too soon to predict how filmmaker Charlie Ebersol's upstart Alliance of American Football will fare, the startup already has a TV distribution deal in place with CBS. The CBS broadcast network will air the league's debut game on February 9, and the league's championship game in April 2019.

Whenever you have an endeavor that involves the kind of teamwork football involves, it implies a partnership, the need to get their buy-in and do things, particularly in a startup, that represent their best interest ... to make sure players know we have their best interests at heart.

"And there are 59 million who play fantasy sports, 29 million of them stopped when football ended". Former players such as Justin Tuck, Hines Ward and Jared Allen will have significant roles, Charlie Ebersol said.

The plan is for each team to have 50 players.

"We firmly believe the next Kurt Warner and Adam Vinatieri is out there", Polian said. For each season a player spends in the AAF, he will be awarded a year's scholarship for a post-secondary education, said Justin Tuck, a former National Football League defensive end and AAF executive.

Charlie Ebersol announced the league on Tuesday, which will be overseen by Hall of Famer Bill Polian and financed by Peter Theil and The Chernin Group, Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports reported. There will be no kickoffs and innovations around onsides kicks in which teams can go for a fourth-and-1o from the 35-yard line to retain possession. After touchdowns, a two-point conversion attempt will be required. "I think you're going to have very, very quality players".

"The eight teams in cities that will be announced in the next three months will start by having regional drafts, protecting eligible players who played in the local community for their college days", writes Rovell. "Our investors here understand that it's a seven-to-10-year plan". The last league to successfully compete against the NFL was the American Football League back in the 60s and they had to spend a considerable amount of money and take on a lot of risk for over a decade to get a merger with the NFL.

Even in the most optimistic scenario, one of these two leagues will fold very quickly if a merger doesn't happen.

The AAF will be made up of eight teams, which the league will announce in the coming months.

The Alliance of American Football specifically will posture itself as a complement to the NFL. Well today the word in the sports world that the Alliance Of American Football will kick off in 2019. We are also talking about former players.

JK McKay, a standout receiver at USC in the 1970s and veteran football exec, will head up football operations for the Alliance. Nickname it "The Alliance", call it "The AAF" or whatever, but we gotta do something about that.
