Drew Brees reportedly re-signs with Saints for two years, $50 million

Drew Brees reportedly re-signs with Saints for two years, $50 million

One of the biggest names if that of quarterback Drew Brees, who has said he wants to return to the New Orleans Saints, but many others want him too. By agreeing to a deal with Brees before the start of a new league year (Wednesday, March 14 at 4pm ET), the Saints avoid having an $18M dead cap hit in 2018.

The deal includes $27 million guaranteed.

The people spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Tuesday because the agreement has not been announced. He turned 39 on January 15.

The Saints won their wild-card playoff game against Carolina, and were one play short of advancing to the NFC Championship for the third time with Brees.

The Minnesota Vikings beat the New Orleans Saints in the divisional round on the "Minneapolis Miracle", Case Keenum's 61-yard touchdown to Stefon Diggs for the walk-off win.

The news of this contract is a little stunning though, because it apparently means Brees is taking less than full market value to stay in New Orleans.

The Saints have been active in talks with the five-time Pro Bowl tight end. In 2011, Brees was at the helm of an offense that gained an NFL-record 7,474 yards. He joined Brett Favre and Petyon Manning in that exclusive club.

Perhaps a little too close for the comfort of New Orleans Saints fans, but their franchise quarterback is back in the fold. The legendary quarterback was named Walter Payton Man of the Year (2006) for his work in the New Orleans community following Hurricane Katrina.
