SP- BSP ties won't be affected by RS poll result: Mayawati

SP- BSP ties won't be affected by RS poll result: Mayawati

Further targeting Mayawati, the BJP leader accused her of adopting double standards over Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) MLA Om Prakash Rajbhar voting matter. The incident took place with the motive to murder me. "I want to warn the BJP and RSS that I will not allow their special aim of creating rift in the new understanding between the BSP and Samajwadi Party to succeed", she said. However, it was not all smiles for the party as it failed to elect the BSP candidate who was counting heavily on the surplus votes of the SP.

But Mayawati also delivered a clear message to newly-discovered ally, Akhilesh Yadav. Mayawati said BJP put all its efforts and Government machinery to stop one MLA from SP and one from BSP from voting. She hit out at the BJP accusing it of misusing government machinery and intimidating opposition MLAs.

Extending support to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Singh had told media, "I am with Maharaj ji".

However, owing to the loss of BSP candidate Bhimrao Ambedkar, the celebrations had "no relevance" anymore, said SP spokesperson Sunil Singh Sajan. In fact, in a remarkable switch of narrative, she linked the infamous assault to BJP by questioning the appointment of O P Singh, the then police chief of Lucknow, as the DGP.

He even tried to caution and lure Mayawati by indicating that the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav could not protect her candidate. Businessman Rajeev Chandrasekhar secured 50 votes, six more than required, with the support from smaller parties and independents.

Shortly after Mayawati making public her disapproval, Akhilesh Yadav deleted one photograph that he had posted standing next to Raja Bhaiya on his Twitter timeline, with a note: "Thank you for supporting Samajwadi Party".

Underlining that the SP-BSP ties would remain strong, Ms. Mayawati dismissed the BJP's repeated references to the 1995 State guest house incident - when SP MLAs allegedly attacked her - to discredit the alliance. She also exhorted to be cautious with the RLD legislators.

Speaking about the Rajya Sabha elections strategy, she said: "A plan had been made that we come together so that the BJP candidate couldn't win the election". BSP workers, however, would not go around canvassing for any candidate in any by-election before the general elections, she said.

While addressing a press conference in Lucknow on Saturday, Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati.

"The BJP's conspiracy will only prove costly for it". Both parties now believe that the pact between them will be able to prevent BJP's march in 2019 parliamentary polls in Uttar Pradesh.
