Suffering is part of my job - Wenger

Arsenal had a big win in the Europa League as they beat AC Milan at the San Siro in Milan.

The Gunners ended their four-match losing streak with a 2-0 win away at AC Milan in the opening leg of their UEFA Europa League clash on Thursday, but the goal now will be to convert that triumph into form back home.

Wenger also admitted that Arsenal's troubles have resulted in some sleepless nights.

But Arsenal, 13 points adrift of the top four in the Premier League, will be confident of continuing their bid to return to the Champions League by winning Europe's second-tier competition for the first time.

But Granit Xhaka made it clear after we had beaten Milan, that there were no problems in the team and the media knew nothing about what was really going on in the Arsenal dressing room. "We are aware of it", he said.

Despite the masses calling for the board to drop the axe on him, Wenger has insisted that he is still the right man to take Arsenal forward. As much as Arsenal deserve credit for their performance, we can not ignore just how bad AC Milan were. "If anyone tells you, you haven't got to prove anything to anyone, they are wrong".

When the quote was put to Wenger, he responded: "You think we have not had enough controversy in the last week?"

However, despite playing only a few minutes, Elneny was delighted with the Gunners' massive win, saying that the team will keep fighting. We have got to reach these levels every week. We are not through, this tie isn't over yet and we have to finish the job. The crowd gets up - "Yeah, we've got somebody who can win it" - and they all just backed off.

"That doesn't look likely, but we need to be ready to pounce if they do".

His Arsenal career has been blighted by injuries, but this season the England global has enjoyed his most successful spell in the famous red and white strip since the 2013/14 campaign, amassing 29 appearances in all competitions for the club.

The 26-year-old has little more than three months remaining on his current deal but negotiations over an extension remain at an impasse.

"This doesn't mean we lack the qualities, but there are players structured in a very different way from ours".

Earlier this season, Watford came out the victors in a 2-1 win at Vicarage Road, with goals from Tom Cleverley and a late Deeney winner.

Speaking on the topic, Wenger recently revealed: "I have a good relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson at the moment".
