Armenia's Ruling Party Will Not Nominate Candidate for Prime minister

"We want change in Armenia and Pashinyan to be elected prime minister right away", said Arman Ovsepyan, a musician.

Sarkisian resigned this week as the country's new prime minister after serving as president for a decade.

After almost two weeks of anti-government protests, Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan was forced to resign.

The Interfax report said Pashinyan encouraged supporters to stage protests in the capital Yerevan on May 1, the day parliament is scheduled to select a new interim prime minister.

Supporters of Armenian opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan attend a rally in the town of Ljevan, Armenia April 28, 2018.

Main news bulletins Wednesday and Thursday came down on protest leader and parliamentarian Pashinyan for wanting to bend to his will the constitution, accused of looking to dictate terms to his political rivals.

"It was noted that the crisis in Armenia must be resolved within the legal framework, in line with the existing constitution and on the basis of the results of the legitimate parliamentary elections held in April 2017". Armenia's Acting Prime Minister is refusing to agree to that scenario.

Acting Prime Minister Karen Karapetian walked out of the earlier talks, accusing Pashinian of delivering ultimatums.

Two days earlier, Arthur Javadyan, the head of the central bank, said that nothing threatens to the Armenian dram, and the regulator is taking all necessary steps.

Asked whether the Kremlin finds the peaceful protests of Armenians to be a component part of the constructive dialogue which President Putin and President Sarkissian called for in a phone conversation, Peskov expressed hope that "constructive contacts which will enable to take compromise" will be held with participants of the protests.

Official Russian TV coverage of the opposition protests in Armenia have gone through phases.

"But we will make every effort to this organization was more efficient and provided better guarantees the security of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh than it was today", - said the Deputy.

The opposition says only its candidate should become the country's next leader to oversee free and fair parliamentary elections and clean up the political system of corruption and the influence of oligarchs.
