Bill Cosby To Be Placed Under House Arrest

Bill Cosby To Be Placed Under House Arrest

He faces up to 30 years in prison. A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled, and Cosby remains out on bail.

A judge says Cosby will be confined to the same suburban Philadelphia mansion where jurors concluded he drugged and molested a Temple University women's basketball administrator, ordering him to be outfitted with a Global Positioning System ankle bracelet to monitor compliance.

Bill Cosby's criminal conviction for aggravated indecent assault is the result of an extremely unique set of circumstances - involving a previously-sealed civil deposition, testimony from other accusers and an alleged 2005 agreement to not prosecute that was ignored by the sitting District Attorney - so it's unlikely to serve as a crystal ball as to how exactly future sexual assault cases against high-profile defendants will play out.

Gloria Allred, a lawyer for some of Cosby's other accusers, said justice had been done, adding: "After all is said and done, women were finally believed".

"Walking into the courtroom and knowing he was in there, I had no intimidation", she said.

A United States lawywer said Cosby might not end up in prison. His lawyer, Tom Mesereau, has said "the fight is not over" and said he will appeal. The jury of seven men and five women voted unanimously to convict the 80-year-old comedian. In the interview, Dickinson said Cosby drugged her and sexually assaulted her.

Lublin made a decision to go to the police, but officers told her there was nothing they could do.

Five of them testified at his retrial.

Joseph Cammarata, a lawyer for the women in the MA defamation case, said he planned to use the conviction as evidence.

But Michelle Madden Dempsey, a criminal law professor at Villanova University, said she thought Cosby's attorneys had a very weak case on these questions. "However, we have to look at a merger of those counts to determine what the final maximum will be", Steele said.

Andrew Wyatt tells ABC's "Good Morning America" on Friday that Cosby is spending time with his wife, Camille, less than 24 hours after hearing the guilty verdict. But Cosby's sentence is only the first step in the process.

Judges can take any number of mitigating factors into consideration when issuing a sentence, she explained.

Constand was an administrator of the Temple women's basketball team at the time, and Cosby, a Philadelphia native who maintained close ties to the university as one of its most prominent alumni, befriended her and invited her to dinners. Cosby's case is the first celebrity trial in the wake of the #MeToo movement, and the mood surrounding it has reflected that, with protesters rallying outside the Philadelphia-area courthouse.

"I believe that it's essential he spend time in jail and it wouldn't break my heart to see him spend the rest of his life in jail", Janice Baker-Kinney said Friday.

But Lublin was still able to get a day in court with Cosby.

But ultimately, the length of his sentence would not change his guilty conviction.

Lotte-Lublin said sees no need for a statute of limitations for sexual assault. "That's definitely an important moment in history".
