Chongqing sponsor 'positive' over Iniesta deal

Chongqing sponsor 'positive' over Iniesta deal

Spanish media paid tribute to Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta after he starred in his side's 5-0 thrashing of Sevilla in the King's Cup final on Saturday.

SWM chairman Gong Daxing has hinted that Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta is expected to complete his Chinese Super League (CSL) move in the summer.

"Before April 30 I have to make the decision whether I'm still in Barcelona or I'm going to China".

"I am happy personally and at a collective level. This is a title that we love and we will try to add the league title to finish the season on a high note".

The World Cup victor had been linked with the Chongqing outfit as well as Tianjin Quanjian and Hebei China Fortune FC, where he could link up with former Barcelona teammate Javier Mascherano. He has also won four Champions League trophies.

Goalscoring is not his forte with just one in all competitions before he netted Barcelona's fourth, rounding Sevilla goalkeeper David Soria and converting from a tight angle.

Further tributes to Iniesta poured in from his team-mates and coach Ernesto Valverde after the game. There are a lot of emotions, a lot of feelings and a lot of moods. "I have to assess what is best for me and for the club", Iniesta said last month.

Reports from Spanish media this week suggested that Iniesta's move to China was as good as done, according to his lawyer, despite not confirming a specific club.

"Iniesta, don't go!" begged Madrid daily AS on their front page on Sunday, while Marca described Iniesta as "the last emperor", a reference to his potential departure to East Asia.

Iniesta was substituted late on at the Wanda Metropolitano, where he received a rousing ovation from both sets of fans. The 33-year-old has spent his entire career at Barcelona, rising through the youth system, first appearing for the B side in 2001 to 2003, and he has been on the senior side now for over 15 years.
