From 'gun control' to a repeal of the 2nd Amendment — KERRY HUBARTT

From 'gun control' to a repeal of the 2nd Amendment — KERRY HUBARTT

King, standing outside of a restaurant in Beverly Hills, California, told TMZ that he agrees with former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, who wrote in a New York Times op-ed published Tuesday that the Second Amendment should be repealed.

In 2008, the Supreme Court overturned Chief Justice Burger's and others' long-settled understanding of the Second Amendment's limited reach by ruling, in District of Columbia v. Heller, that there was an individual right to bear arms.

I adhere to the argument that by "infringing" upon our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, our government would actually be punishing law-abiding citizens while empowering those who would continue to use guns for nefarious purposes. He served on the court from 1975 until his retirement in 2010.

"The demonstrators should seek more effective and more lasting reform". He said that the Second Amendment "has been the subject of one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word 'fraud, ' on the American public by special interest groups". An amendment to the Constitution can only be proposed either by Congress with a two thirds vote in both houses or by a constitutional convention called for by two thirds of the state legislatures. Stevens' contention is that states no longer consider a takeover by the national government an imminent threat, thus the amendment is no longer necessary.

NRA appreciates the outspoken support of President Trump for our Second Amendment freedoms.

The National Rifle Association also issued a statement in response to Stevens' essay.

"[Repealing the Second Amendment] would eliminate the only legal rule that protects sellers of firearms in the United States - unlike every other market in the world", Stevens wrote.
