Google breaks ground on Alabama data center

Google breaks ground on Alabama data center

Bridgeport Mayor David Hughes said Google's decision to locate in Jackson County should transform the Bridgeport area.

"It's a momentous occasion for my family to be back in Alabama and to be able to talk about how Google can bring that same opportunity that I had for education and knowledge to families here in Jackson County by investing in this center and our children and all that they can become", Boden said. Schools $100,000 to boost their stem programs. This arrangement, and others like it throughout the country, help companies and utilities meet their renewable energy goals.

On Monday, a groundbreaking was held for the new Google project.

Google said the data center in Bridgeport will be a hub for Internet traffic, fitting into a network that keeps the company's search engine and its other Internet-based products functioning around the clock.

"I'm thrilled to join with Google today as they break ground on their data center in Jackson County", said Brooks.

Google is constructing the data center on 360 acres adjacent to the old Widows Creek coal-fired power plant, which was decommissioned in 2015 by the Tennessee Valley Authority after decades of operation. "Therefore we ask that Project Maven be cancelled, and that Google draft, publicize and enforce a clear policy stating that neither Google nor its contractors will ever build warfare technology".

"With this generous grant, Google has again proven itself a community partner and a supporter of the Jackson County School District", said Kevin Dukes, superintendent of the Jackson County School System.

"Billions of people use Google to search for something and I'm sure glad that when Google started searching they found us in Alabama", Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said during Monday's ceremony.

"No doubt about it - this a game-changer for us".

The company plans to hire as many as 100 technical people, but construction of the $600 million project will have an immediate impact on the community.

We can now confirm that the fix will be going out around the end of June in the next Google Play Services release.

Google's data centers are industry leaders in energy efficiency, thanks to innovations that allow the company's facilities to derive 3.5 times more computing power from the same amount of energy needed a few years ago. They want Jackson County students to stay right here and work for them at this new data center.

"This is a big day for Bridgeport because it helps our city in many different ways", said Hughes.
