Man Accused Of Killing Yarmouth Police Officer Pleads Not Guilty

The suspect accused of fatally shooting a MA police officer on Thursday while he was being served a warrant had 111 prior adult offenses and was on probation, authorities said. Authorities say he will be charged with murder.

Flags were at half staff across the state on Friday, following the shooting death of a 32-year-old Yarmouth Police officer, Sean Gannon.

The officer, Sean Gannon, was shot around 3:30 the Marston Mills neighborhood of the MA town, according to The Cape Cod Times.

His police dog, Nero, was shot twice and seriously wounded. Dennis Veterinary Hospital told The Globe that the dog has undergone surgery. He called Gannon a "remarkable young man".

"We feel for his family, particularly his wife Dara", Yarmouth police Chief Frank Frederickson said Thursday evening. "He's gone. He died doing what he loved". We're going to miss him terribly.

Gannon graduated from Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth in 2003. He previously was a police officer at Stonehill College.

"The sadness and heartbreak that carried in his voice says it all", Baker said.

According to Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe, Latanowich's last known address was in Somerville, outside Boston. Numerous charges were later dismissed.

Records obtained by The Globe indicated that Latanowich had more than 110 entries and served four years in state prison.

Latanowich is expected back in court in June.
