McKayla Maroney Claims Doctor Larry Nassar Abused Her 'Hundreds' of Times

In January in Michigan, Nassar was sentenced to 40 to 175 years after almost 200 women came forward to share their stories of abuse over the past two decades. Olympic gymnasts Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas have all accused Nassar of sexual abuse. This interview is set to air in its entirety on an hourlong Dateline NBC special called "Silent No More" on Sunday, April 22 at 7:00 pm ET. The school came under NCAA investigation in January for its handling of the Nassar scandal, and submitted its response to the association's letter of inquiry last month. "Everybody said, 'Larry Nassar is a good doctor".

Bela and Martha Karolyi, the former coordinators and coaches of the United States girls's gymnastics team, claimed that they weren't aware of the prevalent sexual abuse of gymnasts by Lawrence G. Nassar, " the former team doctor.

The Georgia lawsuit revealed that USA Gymnastics had an internal policy of not forwarding allegations of child sex abuse to authorities unless they were submitted in writing and signed by a victim or a victim's parent. "I actually was like, "That makes sense, I don't want to tell anybody about this". The longtime leader of USA Gymnastics, Steve Penny, quit in March, and all board members stepped down at the demand of the U.S. Olympic Committee.

"I wasn't listened to, cared about or believed, and all of those things need to be weeded out of society because that's where things went wrong", she said at the event.

For the athletes who were training almost eight to nine hours a day, Maroney said there was little food provided for them.

Nassar spent almost three decades at USA Gymnastics before being fired in 2015 after complaints about his behaviour.

A member of Michigan State's 1979 national championship basketball team says he's hoping his alma matter can learn from the current scandals rocking the university.

Nassar is now serving three life sentences for molesting dozens of his former patients and possessing child pornography.

Nassar was already established in the program when Martha Karolyi took over.

In her first interview since going public with her allegations previous year, Maroney claims her first experience of abuse at the physician's hands occurred during her first check-up at age 13.

"I heard during the testimonies (at Nassar's sentencing) that some of the parents were in the therapy room with their own child and Larry Nassar was performing this", Martha Karolyi told Guthrie. "How I could see?"
