Missing family of 4 may have been swept into river

Missing family of 4 may have been swept into river

Two days after Gujarat resident Thottapally Babu Subramaniam tweeted to Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, urging her to help locate his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, authorities in the United States are fearing the worst.

Thottapilly was traveling with his wife Soumya Thottapilly, 38, and the couple's two children; 12-year-old Siddhant Thottapilly and his 9-year-old sister Saachi Thottapilly.

A search is underway for a Southern California family that went missing while traveling from Portland, Ore., to San Jose.

A vehicle fell into a rain-swollen river and vanished last week in the same region of California's far north coast where a family that vanished during a road trip is last known to have been, authorities said.

"My son Sandeep Thottapilly is residing in California, USA". Other family members last heard from them April 5.

A few miles south, authorities continue to search for members of the Hart family after their GMC Yukon plunged off of a cliff into the Pacific Ocean.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that she has sought a report from the Consul General in San Francisco. "Rest assured. We will spare no effort".

Despite repeated appeals, her body has never been found. On the way back, they planned to stop and see a relative in San Jose.

"On Friday, April 6, we received reports of a traffic collision of a vehicle into the Eel River", said California Highway Patrol Officer William Wunderlich, the Signal reported on Tuesday.

According to CHP it has been too unsafe to send divers into the river, so the SUV people say has not been found yet.

The poster said their last known location was the "Klamath-Redwood National Park area".

"Due to the strong river current, and the poor clarity, the vehicle was unable to be located" on Friday, adding that authorities "have continuously searched and monitored the river in attempts to located the vehicle", with assistance from a CHP helicopter.

A relative of the Thottapilly family who lives in the San Jose area reached out to police Sunday out of concern for the family of four's welfare. CHP Public Information Officer William Wunderlich from the Garberville office said there are similarities between that vehicle and the family's auto, including the color.

"Based on our preliminary investigation and witness statements, we believe the vehicle was a 2016 or 2017 Honda Pilot, maroon in color", he said.
