Trump Calls For Military Forces On US-Mexico Border

WASHINGTON (AP) - In a story April 3 about President Donald Trump announcing that he wants to use the military to secure the border, The Associated Press reported erroneously the length of the U.S. -Mexico border in Texas.

The number of applications approved since October, the beginning of fiscal year 2018, is more than double that, with a total of 138,470 renewal applications receiving approval, in addition to 15,294 initial applications, the report shows.

"Until we can have a wall and proper security we're going to be guarding our border with the military", Trump told reporters at the White House, lamenting what he called "horrible" USA laws that left the southern border poorly protected.

President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened to back out of the North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico over its failure to stem unauthorized border crossings, and said a deal on a legislative replacement to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program was off. Over two years, about 29,000 National Guard forces participated, as forces rotated in and out.

"If we got along with Russia, that would be a good thing, not a bad thing", Trump said, days after congratulating the veteran Russian leader on his controversial re-election and suggesting they meet at the White House.

Federal law prohibits the use of active-duty service members for law enforcement inside the US, unless specifically authorized by Congress.

The Guard members were used for surveillance, communications, administrative support, intelligence, analysis and, in some cases, the installation of border security infrastructure.

"Democrats allow open borders, drugs and crime!"

"I hope he's going to be great", Trump said Tuesday.

"... Congress must immediately pass Border Legislation, use Nuclear Option if necessary, to stop the massive inflow of Drugs and People".

Trump is angry that a recently-passed spending bill provides little to no money for his border wall. And much of that money can be used only to fix existing segments, not to build new sections. Another loophole is a 1997 court decision that requires undocumented immigrant children to be released to their parents. Such proposals are likely to face opposition from moderate Republicans and Democrats going into the midterm elections. The current 51-49 Senate split favors Republicans.

In September, the Trump administration announced it was ending the DACA program, which offered protection from deportation to people brought to the US illegally as children, now known as Dreamers.

President Trump called for "tougher laws" Monday night following news of the approaching Central American immigrants, saying "Honduras, Mexico and many other countries that the U.S.is very generous to, sends many of their people to our country through our WEAK IMMIGRATION POLICIES".

These “Stations of the Cross” migrant caravans have been held in southern Mexico for at least the last five years.
