On the other hand, Axis Bank (3.87%), Reliance Industries (3.18%), I C I C I Bank (1.25%), Coal India (0.77%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.38%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.14%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

The BSE market breadth was bearish with 1,782 declines and 915 advances.

Most Asian stocks were trading lower as investors turned cautious ahead of the Fed's view on interest rates, inflation, and the economy.

European markets were under pressure, with the France's CAC and Germany's DAX falling 0.3 percent each at the time of writing this article. Wall Street was poised to open higher.

Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng index dropped 1.2 percent to close at 30,313.37 and South Korea's Kospi dipped 0.7 percent to end at 2,487.25. The future for the Dow Jones industrial average was flat at 24,072.00 while the future for the S&P 500 edged 0.1 percent higher.

On Thursday, Asian indices were showing a negative trend. China's Shanghai Composite index was trading in red, down by 0.23 per cent.
