Sessions to talk about immigration enforcement in San Diego

In a speech to law enforcement officials in Scottsdale, Arizona, Sessions said the Department of Homeland Security will begin referring such cases to the Justice Department for prosecution and that federal prosecutors will "take on as many of those cases as humanly possible until we get to 100 percent". "We can help you - because we can reach defendants across state lines, across national borders, and even across oceans".

Individuals who cross illegally will no longer be apprehended and simply bused back over the border without charges, as the Border Patrol has done in the past, especially for people without criminal records or prior immigration violations.

"We want to be a force-multiplier for you", Sessions said.

"It's obvious that we can not take everyone who wants to come here without also hurting the interests of the citizens we are sworn to serve and protect". Trump himself was in Otay Mesa in March to survey prototypes of the border wall, which was a key promise of his anti-immigration presidential campaign.

The trip marked the fourth time a high-ranking Trump Administration official has visited the California-Mexico border region in recent months.

Kirstjen Nielsen, the homeland security secretary, sent the order to border agents on Friday, according to two people familiar with the directive. Vice President Mike Pence visited Calexico last Monday.

Many of the Central American migrants who traveled together to the southern border via caravan over the last month expected to face a similar process. Sessions has echoed the president's comments, calling the caravan a "deliberate attempt to undermine our laws and overwhelm our system".

Sessions said last week that USA attorneys and federal judges will be sent to the southern border to deal with immigration cases, while Nielsen warned that anyone who crosses the border illegally will be prosecuted.

"When respect for the rule of law diminishes, so too does our ability to protect our great nation, its borders and its citizens", Sessions said last week. "We are dealing with a massive influx of illegal aliens across our Southwest Border. We will continue to work with our partners in each U.S. Attorney's office to aggressively pursue prosecutions of criminal illegal entry".
